Jonathan Andrews won the LMRA Men’s Prone Match at the British 50Metre International Rifle Championships today at Bisley, his final score of 205.6 leading Neil Stirton by a mere 0.6 points.

Welsh Commonwealth hopeful Mike Bamsey placed 3rd, whilst London 2012 Olympian Jonathan Hammond was eliminated in 4th place. Dan Rivers, Ken Bowley, Austin Wilshire and Mike Bagot made up the rest of the finals field.

Although he spends most of his time in the US as Head Coach for the West Virginia University Rifle Team, Hammond is in the UK ahead of Scotland’s Commonwealth Games campaign, seeking to retain his title in July. Hammond won the Individual Prone Rifle event in Delhi as well as the Pairs Prone Rifle in partnership with Neil Stirton.

Both will face stiff opposition from Mike Bamsey and Dan Rivers who will be representing Wales and England respectively. Although finishing out of the medals today, Rivers won the Men’s Air Rifle title at both the British Air Open in February and ESSU Open in May, and will be seeking to carry his good form through to his Commonwealth challenge.
