Mick Gault took Bronze today in the Men’s 10M Air Pistol, equalling the all-time record for Commonwealth Games Medals of 18.Despite a wobble in his 3rd Finals series, Mick was sat in 6th by the first elimination, not in imminent danger, and only 0.1 points behind England teammate Stewart Nangle who was sat in 5th. After a solid fourth series, Mick leapfrogged Stewart to tie with Malaysian Eddy Chew in joint third. A good fifth series saw him take 3rd place outright, with Eddy nevertheless snapping at his heels, sometimes overtaking Mick on the way to Series 7 when Eddy was eliminated in 4th, just ahead of Stewart Nangle who placed 4th.
Mick sat 0.6 points behind provisional Silver medallist Prakash Nanjappa (IND), but was unable to overtake him in the 8th series, being eliminated in Bronze medal position. Prakash finished with Silver, with Daniel Repacholi (AUS) taking the Gold.
This is Gault’s 18th Commonwealth Medal, tying him with Australian Shooter Philip Adams. Mick may go on to break the record as he still has the 50M Pistol match to go.
