Matt Skelhon earns his first World Title in Suhl.Matt Skelhon had one more thing to add to his Paralympic and European titles, and that was one from the Worlds. Undeterred by the frustration of a Silver medal finish yesterday, Matt fought back in the R6 50m Rifle Prone Mixed SH1 event to claim victory, and break his own Finals World Record in the process.
Making it through the Elimination Relay alongside GB teammate Karen Butler, Skelhon stormed through the Qualification shoot with a convincing 620.6, well ahead of the next qualifier Abdulla Sultan Alaryani (UAE) who qualified with 617.3.
A solid first Finals stage put him third, though only two tenths of a point behind second. Turning up the pressure he climbed past Doran Shaziri (ISR) by the time the first finallist was eliminated and built up momentum to take the lead, overtaking Jonas Jakobsson (SWE) by the second elimination. Out in front he Matt consolidated his lead, drawing out an impressive shoot to finish 209.5 to Jakobsson’s 205.9, in the process beating his own Finals World Record of 206.9 that Matt set in Alicante at the European Championships in October 2013.
