Elena Allen clinches the Silver medal in the Women’s Skeet, claiming the first shooting medal for Wales. After 16 birds in the Semi-Finals, Laura Coles (AUS) led the way with 15, with Wales’ Elena Allen and England’s Sarah Gray tied on 13. Shooting off for a spot in the Gold medal match, Elena pipped Sarah two bird to one. Meanwhile below them, Cypriot Andri Eleftheriou was tied with India’s Arti Singh Rao on 12 each. After both going clean on their firts pair, they needed a second for Endri to take the shoot-off 4-3 for her spot in the Bronze medal match with Sarah Gray.
Andri and Sarah both started out strongly, with a couple of early mistakes by Sarah being matched with a wobbly middle section from Andri. But after Sarah missed both birds on her 6th pair, Andri rallied and went clean for the remainder of her shoot, claiming Bronze 13 birds to Sarah’s 12.
Laura Coles likewise started well, not dropping a shot until her 6th pair, by which time Elena had dropped two. Laura went on to miss her last bird, which drew them level on two misses each until Elena also dropped her last bird, putting her in Silver medal position with a final score of 14-13 in favour of Coles.
Also competing from the home nations were Amber Hill (ENG) and Sian Bruce (SCO). Amber drew with Sarah in Qualification on 65 birds each, along with Panagiota Andreou of Cyprus, the three of them shooting-off for the 6th place in the Semi-Finals in a fight that Sarah won.
