Jonty Barron, Katie McFall and Tom Williams take Open, Ladies and Novice Individual titles.

The BUCS Short Range Rifle Championships were held at Staveley Rifle & Pistol Club over the weekend, with Edinburgh topping the team event chased by perennial high-performers Southampton, with Newcastle in Bronze medal position.

Jonty Barron of Aberdeen claimed the Overall Individual title trailed by A. Dove of Edinburgh Napier, and Finbar Ryley of Newcastle, whilst Katie McFall took the Ladies Individual (again!), with Jennifer Lewsey of Imperial College and Nikki Sammels of Edinburgh picking up Silver and Bronze. Tom Williams from St Andrews was the top Novice, with Swansea’s A. Stops taking Silver and L. Ellwood from Newcastle claiming Bronze.

The event sees 8 Teams-of-6 qualify through Postal Competition, along with the top 20 Individuals, and up to 6 Ladies and 5 Novices (total, Ladies and Novices may qualify outright for the Open Individual and shoot the other events concurrently, or 7 ladies might qualify for the Open Individual, but only the top 6 will contest the Ladies Championship).

Teams now look forward to the BUCS Long-Range Smallbore Championship  – a Double Dewar held at Appleton Rifle Club on April 23rd – and the BUCS Fullbore Championships, held in July as part of the NRA’s Imperial Meeting.
